Program Description
During the Summer "Bridge" Session, students in this course will explore the profound ways in which places impact our lives and shape our identities through creative writing prompts. Through these writing pieces, they will explore personal experiences and historical contexts, examining the diverse meanings of "home" and its significance globally. They will also reflect on how people worldwide are working to improve their communities through technology, engineering, and social projects. Engaging in regular "quick writes", students will craft one paragraph each class reflecting on topics ranging from the influence of different places on their lives, what creates a sense of belonging for themselves and others, as well as responding thoughtfully on how we can create a better future for our neighborhoods. This regular practice will support them in developing a solid foundation in their knowledge of paragraph structure and the writing process. As the culmination of their exploration, students will compose a creative writing piece in proper essay format that channels their insights by envisioning the future of their dreams through science fiction. Their writing pieces will incorporate their unique perspectives of how we can shape a better tomorrow as well as what the future of technology and innovation might look like.
